Churches

St. George's Roman Catholic Church - The tower dates all the way from 1818, but the actual church was built in 1884 on the site of an 1804 church on Church Street.

 

St. Andrew's Presbytery - Dating back from 1830 this church on Grand Etang Road, also known as Scots' Kirk, was built with the help of the Freemasons.

St. George's Anglican Church - Built in 1825 on Church Street, this beautiful stone and pink stucco building is filled with historic plaques and statues.

St. George's Methodist Church - Constructed in 1820 on Green Street, this is the oldest original church in St. George's.


Houses of Parliament

York House on Church Street, purchased in 1801, houses the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Supreme Court. The neighbouring Registry, built in 1780, and York House are fine examples of early Georgian architecture.


Currency

The East Caribbean dollar is the currency used locally. It is linked to the US dollar. At the banks you will get EC$2.67 for US$l cash and EC$2.68 for US$l travellers cheques. Shops will give EC$2.60. DM Cash is accepted in Barclays Bank only and DM1 is approx. EC$1.70. The British pound is approx. £1 equals EC$4.


Drivers License
To obtain a local permit, a bona fide driving licence must be presented at the local traffic department at the Central Police Station on the Carenage, the cost is EC$30. Most car rental firms issue local permits. Please note that driving is on the LEFT.


Electricity
Voltage is 220 volts - 50 cycles. Appliances rated at 110 volts (US standard) normally work satisfactorily with a transformer. Most hotels have standard British three prong plugs, and provide dual voltage shaver units. Bring an adapter plug for small appliances.


Entry Requirements
A valid passport and return or onward ticket is required. However, proof of citizenship bearing a photograph is acceptable from British, Canadian and US citizens, if accompanied with a copy of your birth certificate. Visas are not required from citizens of USA, Canada, United Kingdom and its dependencies, British Commonwealth countries, Caribbean countries (except Cuba), European Community countries and their dependencies, Norway, Japan, and Israel.

Commonwealth of Independent States such as Russia and the Ukraine and the Baltic States such as Estonia and Latvia, and other eastern European countries such as Hungary, Romania and Slovenia are required to purchase a tourist visa on arrival in Grenada and costs EC$ 25.

Duty Free Allowances - Personal items, one quart in total wines and spirits, half-pound tobacco or 50 cigars or 200 cigarettes. No restrictions on the amount of money that can be brought in. Restricted items are fruits, vegetables, meat, soil, illegal drugs, firearms and ammunition.

Land Holding Licence

All foreign persons or firms wishing to buy real estate in Grenada must apply to the government under the Alien's Land Holding Ordinance for licence. This process requires little documentation.
