Inaugural National Student Art Exhibition

 

Wednesday 12th September, 2007- St. George’s: The Ministry of Education through the Cabinet appointed Patron of the Arts Fund, invites primary and secondary schools students to participate in the Inaugural National Student Art Exhibition.

 

The theme of the exhibition is “Traditional Childhood Games”, encouraging students to use their imagination and artistic skills to create drawings, paintings or collages that depict childhood games being played.

 

The exhibition will be judged in the following categories:

 

Category 1                   Five (5) to eight (8) years

Category 2                   Nine (9) to eleven (11) years

Category 3                   Twelve (12) to eighteen (18) years

 

CRITERIA

 

·         Drawings, paintings, collages ONLY will be accepted.

·         Submitted artwork should be drawn or painted on White Bristol board 11” x 17”.

·         Use of colour is strongly encouraged.

·         Only ONE entry per artist will be accepted.

·         Each entry must have a Contest Entry Form attached with a paper clip to qualify for judging.

·         DEADLINE for submission to the Ministry of Education Art Director is Wednesday 31st October, 2007.

 

The Patron of the Arts Fund Inaugural National Student Art Exhibition is open to students from all public and private primary and secondary schools between the ages Five to Eighteen years. ONLY schools may submit student entries to the Ministry of Education Art Director, c/o Ministry of Education, Botanical Gardens. Individual submissions will not be accepted. Entries must be submitted in a Bristol board folder with the name of the school and the number of entries submitted marked clearly on the FRONT of the folder. Each school is eligible to submit One Entry per Form, with a maximum of ten entries per school, to be determined by the School.

 

The Patron of the Arts Fund Management Team, through corporate sponsorship, will provide monetary prizes for the winning entries in the three age categories. Further information can be obtained from the Ministry of Education Art Director Lisa Francis at 440-2737.

 

The following list of Traditional Childhood Games is provided for teachers as reference for subject matter. Teachers are encouraged to share this list with students with a view to discovering other traditional games that can be depicted. This presents an opportunity for children to speak to parents and other elders about Traditional Childhood Games.
