Rehabilitation of the School for Arts, Science and Professional Studies at the T. A. Marryshow Community College

 

Wednesday 30th May 2007- St. George’s: Rehabilitation of the School for Arts, Science and Professional Studies at the T. A. Marryshow Community College is set to commence in September of 2007.

 

The Government of Grenada entered into Agreement on July 12th, 2006 with the Martinique Regional Council to assist with the rehabilitation of two (2) buildings of the School for Arts, Science and Professional Studies. The agreement was signed by Minister for Education and Labour Hon. Claris Charles.

 

Rehabilitation of the two building is expected to cost approximately one and a half million EC dollars ($1,500,000.00).

 

The works shall include:

 

·         Alteration work to two V-shaped buildings on the College compound, both buildings are located at the southern end of the site (above Grenada Craft Centre)

 

·         The two buildings are:

 

1.      Building No. 1: The staffroom. It is a single storey building half of which is slab on grade and the other half is suspended on columns approximately 5-6 high.

 

2.      Building No 2: Art and Science Building. This building has 2  ˝ storey’s and is built from reinforced concrete frame with pitched timber roof. In its present state, one wing has been without roof since the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and roof support. As a consequence therefore, much of the interior of that exposed wing has deteriorated if only by virtue of being weathered for more than two (2) years.

 

The minimum acceptable design standards shall be those incorporated in the Grenada building Code.

 

Rehabilitation is expected to take approximately six months.
