Sports Minister congratulates Grenada’s first World Championship Medalist

 

Friday 13 July, 2007 St Georges: Minister of Sports Roland Bhola, wishes to extend heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Kirani James on his outstanding performance at the IAAF World Youth Championship in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

 

James won the Country’s first ever medal at the World Youth Championship when he placed second in the finals of the 400 meters in a personal best and new national youth record of 46.96 seconds.

 

The sports Minister speaking on behalf of the Government of Grenada was high in praise of the GBSS sprint star.

According to him, “Kirani’s achievement marks another historic day for athletics in Grenada”.

 

“Moreover the manner in which Kirani won the silver medal was true testimony of his determination and zeal for success”.

 

Bhola said, “He did his personal best and that’s the most significant thing. He gave of his best and in so doing made his country proud”.

 

Bhola said, Government will continue to place serious emphasis on youth development through sports because it’s one of the gateways to success. He noted that Kirani’s success and the international recognition that will accompany it is more than just reward for Governments continued thrust to invest in youth and sports

 

He further stated that the Ministry will continue to invest heavily and improve facilities around the country so that our nation’s athletes will have the best possible facilities.

 

 The Minister went on to give special commendations to Kirani’s parents, the coaching staff, students and staff at the GBSS, the Ministry of Sports, Grenada Athletic Association and all those who would have contributed to his development in one way or another.
