Environmental Screening Checklists and Guidelines workshop held in Grenada

Thursday 25^th July 2007, St. George’s: Ten (10) countries from around the Caribbean are part of a three day workshop on Environmental Screening Checklists and Guidelines which began yesterday July 25^th at the Coyaba Beach Resort. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Communication, Works and Transport / Basic Needs Trust Found (BNTF) and the Caribbean Development Bank in collaboration with Canadian International Development Agency.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide training to improve the participants’ capacity to understand environmental impact assessment (EIA) including natural hazard impact assessment (NHIA) considerations for BNTF5 type sub-project.

The objective is to train staff to screen projects for potential environmental and natural hazard risks and to ensure that these risks are addressed in sub-project design so as to maximize and sustain sub –projects benefits.

Day 2 of the workshop will continue with field visits to all local BNTF sub- projects.

The third day will end with an evaluation of the EIA Tools, group presentation of field work, a discussion/ evaluation of tool used in the field and the final workshop evaluation.

St. Kitts & Nevis, Jamaica, Barbados and Martinique
